ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
W. Roland Hamilton discovered a love for photography after attending a new media presentation at Ryerson University in 1999. In 2006, after 8 years of archiving industrial factory ruins and abandoned places, he launched silentbuildings.com. He included articles covering architecture, economics, history, urban planning and infrastructure development to provide some context to the photos presented.
Hamilton’s large format photography work was first presented at the 2008 Festival of the Arts, hosted by Artszone at the University of Toronto. His show Silentbuildings 445 was featured during the University of Toronto’s 2009 Celebration of the Arts. Both galley exhibitions explored the themes of abandoned industrial sites, desolate landscapes, vintage artifacts, and historically significant architecture. W. Roland Hamilton’s photos capture the austere beauty of forgotten places.
